Old Fire: Mop up begins as fire crews contain Calabasas blaze

CALABASAS >> Crews battling the 516 acre Old Fire that tore through Calabasas over the weekend, transitioned to mop up operations Monday, officials said.

The fire that erupted on Saturday afteoon is now 81 percent contained and all evacuation orders were lifted and roads reopened by Sunday night, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Mike McCormick.

About 90 horses that had been sheltered at Pierce College in Woodland Hills also were in the process of being retued to their homes. Seventy of the horses were from the Mill Creek Equestrian Center in Topanga Canyon.

A smoke advisory remained in effect Monday moing for the surrounding area, according to the South Coast Air Quality District.

“While conditions have improved, some smoke may be experienced locally near the fire in the weste San Feando Valley and northwest Los Angeles County coastal area at times,” SCAQD said in a news release.
