Hillary Clinton, in Long Beach, says in spite of wiing nomination, 'We still have work to do'

Speaking to close to 2,000 supporters at Long Beach City College, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton downplayed an Associated Press aouncement Monday night that she had captured enough delegates to claim the Democratic nomination against Sen. Beie Sanders.

“We are on the brink of a historic, unprecedented moment, but we still have work to do, don’t we?” Clinton said. “We have six elections tomorrow and we’re going to fight hard for every single vote.”

Sanders, who is in the Bay Area, released an immediate statement saying “it is unfortunate” that the media is ignoring calls to wait until the Democratic convention July 25-28 before declaring a wier. “Clinton does not have the requisite number to secure the nomination,” he said, referring to superdelegates who can vote for either candidate, though they have pledged their support to Clinton.

In an interview with MSNBC immediately following her speech in Long Beach, Clinton said Sanders strategy to try and persuade superdelegates to switch their vote is “perplexing.”

“Why are you advocating that you want to overtu the will of the people who have been expressing their views over these last few months?” she said, adding that she has three million more votes from the general public than Sanders.

Clinton, however, wary that voters may be unmotivated to vote based on the news, said on Twitter tonight that “we’re flattered, but we’ve got primaries to win.”
