1 killed, another wounded in Long Beach drive-by shooting

LONG BEACH — A young man was killed today and another was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Long Beach.

The shooting occurred about 4 a.m. near 64th Street and Coronado Avenue, said Long Beach police Lt. Dina Zapalski. One man died at the scene, and the survivor was taken to a hospital in stable condition, she said.

Laurie Pritchett told ABC7 that her son was killed. She identified him as Wylie Pritchett.

She said her son was at a house visiting friends when someone drove up and fired several shots from a car, Chael 7 reported.

“He got shot,” Pritchett said. “A bullet went through my son and went through another kid, his other friend. He’s in the hospital right now ...”

It was unclear what led to the shooting. No descriptions of the car, suspect or suspects were immediately available. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
