
The Walt Disney Company has donated $1 million to help the victims of the Orlando shooting massacre, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer aounced Tuesday afteoon.
“Thank you @WaltDisneyCo for donating $1 million to #OneOrlando,” Dyer tweeted. The One Orlando Fund is an organization created to raise money to assist those affected by the mass shooting, which claimed 49 lives when a gunman opened fire at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando on Sunday moing.
“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act,” Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek said in a statement. “With 74,000 Cast Members who call Orlando home, we mou the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.”
Chapek also said Disney employees can donate blood to help the victims at five designated locations at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
Shortly after the Disney donation was aounced, Dyer tweeted that JetBlue airlines had also stepped up with a $100,000 donation.
According to the newly launched One Orlando Fund website, the money raised will go to non profits that support the victims and their families, as well as the LGBTQ community.
