Several Long Beach community groups will come together tonight for evening of “remembrance and healing” in response to the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, on June 12.
The event at 6:30 p.m. at Temple Israel, 269 Loma Ave., will include speakers from the LGBTQ Center of Long Beach, the Office of Rep. Alan Lowenthal, the South Coast Interfaith Council, the Office of Councilwoman Suzie Price, Temple Israel and First Congregational Church of Long Beach, United Church of Christ.
According to organizers, the evening will include expressions of remembrance for those who died through prayer, music and a call to action.
“Numbed silence in the face of such a tragedy is not an option,” Rabbi Steven Moskowitz of Temple Israel said in a statement. “We need to remember the fallen, heal the injured and traumatized, and strengthen the building of communities based on love, pride of diversity, and compassion.”
