A man with a mental illness climbed on the roof of a downtown Long Beach Blue Line station, briefly disrupting service around noon.

The man was seen by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy at the Fifth Street and Pacific Avenue station, said Sheriff’s Lt. John Sullivan in a phone interview.

The deputy began efforts to get the man off the roof, and called Long Beach police and fire for help. LA Metro cut power to the station for the man’s safety, Sullivan said.

The man was helped off the roof safely and was transported by Long Beach firefighters to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, he said.

Blue Line service in the area was disrupted for about 18 minutes and is now back on schedule, Sullivan said.
