LOS ANGELES >> Scattered power outages were reported across Southe Califoia, as temperatures approached 115 in some areas.

Nearly 1,200 customers lost power this afteoon in Studio City after at least one circuit went out, according to a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokeswoman said.

The outage which was centered east of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and was reported at 1:50 p.m., according to LADWP spokeswoman Kim Hughes.

“A total of 1,183 customers are currently without power,” Hughes told City News Service at 2:30 p.m..

“A circuit went out,” she said. “We don’t know what caused it, but crews are on scene and working on the problem.”

Hughes said she didn’t know yet when power would be restored to those customers.

In Brea, police said about 1,600 homes were blacked out this afteoon. Southe Califoia Edison officials said the power went out at 1:45 and did not have an estimated repair time.

Brea police said a cooling station had been opened at the Brea Community Center, as temperatures of 105 were reported in nearby Fullerton.

Other outages reported by the SC Edison automated reporting system included 1,015 accounts in West Covina, 81 locations in Mission Viejo and 79 accounts in Culver City.
