A 33-year-old Commerce man was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck while riding a motorcycle in Long Beach Monday night.

Officers were dispatched at 9:55 p.m. to an injury traffic crash at 7th Street and Newport Avenue, police said. The motorcyclist was found lying unconscious in front of the pickup truck in the street and officers started medical aid procedures.

Long Beach Fire Department paramedics determined he was dead at the scene, police said.

A preliminary investigation found that a 70-year-old Long Beach man was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma westbound on 7th Street when he tried to tu left onto Newport Avenue and crashed into the 2008 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle, police said. The motorcyclist’s identity is being withheld until the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office reaches the man’s next of kin.
