Darrell Park in 2nd place for LA County District 5 Supervisor's race

Entrepreneur Darrell Park maintained a narrow lead over state Sen. Bob Huff Tuesday to compete against candidate Kathryn Barger in the November runoff for Michael D. Antonovich’s Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors seat, according to updated results.

The results — the fourth ballot counting update and only a slight change from last Friday’s numbers — were released Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s office but are far from being finalized.

Park had 15.20 percent of the vote compared to Huff’s 14.97 percent, the latest results show. Barger, who is chief of staff for Antonovich, has a significant lead over both candidates with 29.91 percent of the vote. More than 1,190 votes separate Park and Huff at this time. Meanwhile, Barger is leading Park by more than 48,120 votes.

Mike Sanchez, a spokesman for the Registrar-Recorder, said they could not say how many votes still need to be counted.

Results will be updated every Tuesday and Friday until at least June 29. On July 1, the Registrar-Recorder’s office is slated to certify the election results for L.A. County. On July 5, the LA County Board of Supervisors is slated to declare the election results official, said Registrar-Recorder spokeswoman Cecilia Gomez Reyes.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, with its $28 billion-a-year budget, ensures county services are delivered to its citizens, passes ordinances and rules that gove public conduct and serves as the appeals board for many land-use issues.

The sprawling 5th District, which covers some 2,800 square miles, includes the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and parts of the San Feando and San Gabriel valleys.
