Authorities identify one of two killed in Lakewood crash as Long Beach man

LAKEWOOD >> Two people were killed Tuesday night and a third person was hospitalized in what authorities are calling a possible DUI crash.

Authorities identified one of those killed as Brian Urquia, 30, of Long Beach, the driver of one vehicle, who died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported. His passenger, a woman in her 20s from Long Beach, also was killed. Her name was withheld, pending notification of her relatives.

The other motorist was treated at a hospital for unspecified injuries.

The crash at the intersection of Paramount and Del Amo boulevards was reported at about 9:30 p.m., according to Sgt. J. Jobling of the sheriff’s Lakewood Station.

Two compact cars were involved in the crash, which Lakewood Station Sgt. Steve Moses described as “head on.” The two people killed were the occupants of one of the vehicles.

The surviving person is the suspected drunken driver and is currently listed in stable condition.
