San Gabriel Complex fires 15% contained, some residents must remain evacuated

Twin fires buing in the San Gabriel mountains moved relatively slowly oveight, but firefighters are conceed about the impact of a change in the weather over the next few days.

The San Gabriel Complex fires are now 15 percent contained and have bued 5,235 acres. The largest fire, known as the Fish fire, has bued 4,035 acres while the Reservoir fire held steady for the second consecutive day at 1,200 acres bued, according to official reports.

Hundreds of Duarte residents were allowed to retu to their homes on Wednesday and those allowed to retu was extended to those residents who live from Vineyard Avenue to Wilmington Drive and from Las Lomas to Willowglen Drive, officials said. Anyone who lives north of Willowglen Drive is still under a mandatory evacuation, but can retu to retrieve medicine if they provide ID.

All previous mandatory evacuations in Azusa remain in effect, officials said. More than 1,300 homes have been evacuated during the entire course of the fire.

Officials said their biggest conce for the future of the fire is a shifting weather patte expected Thursday night that includes offshore flows. As the weekend approaches, the temperatures are expected to reach 90 and 100 degrees and winds could gust as high as 20 mph, officials said. Those would be some of the strongest winds during the course of this fire, officials said. The wind direction could also change from the current southwest to northeast.
