All San Gabriel Complex fire evacuation orders expected to be lifted today

Duarte and Azusa residents who remain evacuated due to twin fires buing in the San Gabriel Mountains are expected to be allowed to retu to their homes by noon Friday, officials said.

The San Gabriel Complex fires went unchanged oveight and feared winds did not have any impact on the twin fires, officials said Friday moing.

The bued acreage between the two fires remained mostly the same through the night at a combined total of 5,267 acres, according to official estimates. The fire is now 30 percent contained.

Fire crews were conceed Thursday about the potential for strong winds blowing toward residential areas increasing the threat from the fire, but the weather had very little impact on the fire, officials said.

The two fires, the Fish fire and the Reservoir fire, have been buing since Monday. No structures have been damaged as a result of the fires.

The Fish fire has bued the majority of the acreage with 4,067 while the Reservoir fire has bued 1,200 acres.

The Reservoir fire is believed to have started after a fatal car crash on Highway 39 near Morris Dam. The car burst into flames which lead to the wildfire. The cause of the Fish fire remains under investigation.

More than 1,200 fire fighting persoel continue to fight both fires and winds are still a conce going into the weekend. The forecast calls for strong gusts tonight and temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees this weekend.

During the course of the fire, more than 1,300 homes had been evacuated in Duarte and Azusa.
