Friends and family of Alicia Todd hold candlelight vigil on one-year aniversary of her shooting death

Family and friends of Alicia Faith Todd gathered late Friday on the one-year aiversary of her murder to hold a candlelight vigil in the 21-year-old Signal Hill woman’s memory.

Todd was found shot to death shortly after 1 a.m. June 24, 2015 in an alley near 21st Street and Lemon Avenue in Central Long Beach. The shooting rocked the community and Todd’s friends and family who remembered her as a brave young woman who stood up for others and was a bright light to those around her.

The former Millikan High School track and field athlete was enrolled at Long Beach City College, worked at a Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant in downtown Long Beach and wanted to become a social worker, family and friends said. She stayed away from drugs and gang life.

Her oldest sister Patricia said that the family is grieving deeply one year later and wants justice.

They gathered at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, marched through the alley where her body was found and ended the night at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

Todd’s boyfriend, 24-year-old Tremaine Lewis, was arrested for his alleged coection to Todd’s murder Feb. 18. He faces one count of murder with a gun enhancement, Long Beach police said.

Lewis’ next court date is a pre-hearing conference July 7 at Long Beach Superior Court.
