Corgi-o-rama-palooza! Now with bacon-flavor bubbles!

The most puzzling thing about our life, by far, is the fact that we’ve never owned a corgi. It’s like, every time we have a dog, we’re sorta bummed that it’s not a corgi. Then, when we’re in the market for a dog, we wind up going simple and stupid and wind up with some cockeyed non-corgi breed and wind up with adopter’s remorse.

All we can do is watch Other People’s Corgis, and OPGs will be out in full force on Saturday for So Cal Corgi Beach Day at Rosie’s Dog Beach at Granada Avenue at Ocean Boulevard.

The group has got its eye on the world’s record for most corgis in one place and are hoping for more than 1,000 of the little-legged breed at the Saturday event.

The “Corg of July Pawtacular” officially begins at 10 a.m., when you can swing by the corgi kissing booth and the rescue booth.

A corgi talent contest will be held at 11 a.m., followed by a “pawtriotic” costume contest (these aren’t our puns, folks), a corgi limbo contest (OMG!) a corgi watermelon eating contest (OMGOMG!) and, at 2:15, the Corgi Bubble Pavilion! (OMGOMGOMG!!!) with BACON FLAVORED BUBBLES (passing out now; thump!; x’s for eyes!)

Do you trust placing your Thursday evening in our hands?

Come on! It’s only Thursday. Plus, by then, you’ll have already thanked us for telling you about the corgis.

What you do Thursday evening is grab a blanket, a thing of crackers and a thing of cheese and go see the Salty Suites in an outdoor performance at the beautiful El Dorado Nature Center.

We saw the bluegrass/folk band at the center earlier this year and were knocked out (see Corgi Bubble Pavilion) by the musicianship, particularly that of mandolinist Scott Gates, who’s pretty much the best we’ve ever seen, and we’ve seen David Grisman, so that’s saying a heap.

The 7 p.m. show is a stupidly cheap $3 and the gates open at 6:30. You’ll find it at 7550 E. Spring St., in Long Beach.

Fireworks of the Pacific

We’re pretty sure you already have your fireworks-watching plans nailed down by now, but it you’re open to something different, Harbor Cruises is hosting fireworks cruises on July 3 in Alamitos Bay and on the Fourth on the waters of Long Beach Harbor.

Both cruises go out of Rainbow Harbor, with boarding at 7:30 p.m. and retuing at 10 p.m.

Tickets for July 3 cruise are $30 for ages 3 and up; July 4 cruise is $35.
