Suicidal woman dies after being struck by car in Long Beach late Wednesday

A woman who police say was suicidal died after being struck by a vehicle in North Long Beach late Wednesday, police said.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner, was walking in traffic about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near the crossing of 56th Street and Cherry Avenue, according to Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt. Officers who responded to a report of the woman’s walking in the roadway discovered she had been struck by a 2004 Nissan 350Z traveling north on Cherry before they arrived.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the woman remained at the scene, and a passerby administering life saving measures. The woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and leaed she had died Thursday, officials said.

Police said they leaed the victim had gone to a location in the area to see an acquaintance, was distraught, and made Idea about ruing into traffic.

“Before the acquaintance could take any action, the victim left the location, ran into the street, and was struck,” police said.
