Girl, 4, critically injured after hit and run near Poly High Thursday night

A 4-year-old girl suffered a critical injury after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Thursday evening near an intersection east of Long Beach Poly.

Police responded about 8:30 p.m. to a report of an injury traffic collision near the intersection of 17th Street and Alamitos Avenue, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said in an email.

Officers arrived to find a child had been hit by a vehicle, the driver of which failed to remain at the scene of the crash.

Arrona described the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored SUV that may have front-end damage.

Long Beach Fire Department persoel took the child to a hospital. Her name and extent of her injuries were unknown.
