Garages go up in flames in South Wrigley fire early Tuesday in Long Beach

Long Beach firefighters extinguished a garage fire that ignited early Tuesday moing behind a South Wrigley apartment building.

Fire Department spokesman Jake Heflin said the fire started about 1:25 a.m. Tuesday and scorched five detached garages near a two-story apartment complex in the 2100 block of Chestnut Avenue.

Firefighters had the blaze under control at 1:33 a.m., Heflin said. The fire did not result in any injuries nor adversely affect any nearby living spaces, although the flames did cause significant damage to two of the garage units.

The fire’s cause has yet to be determined.
