Man hit by car Friday in North Long Beach dies of injuries

A 57-year-old Long Beach man died Saturday at a hospital after being struck by a vehicle the previous moing in North Long Beach, Long Beach police reported.

Police did not release the man’s name. The Los Angeles County coroner could not be reached immediately for comment.

The incident happened shortly before 7 a.m. Friday moing and resulted in police shutting down part of Artesia Boulevard for several hours.

Police investigators have leaed the man was crossing Artesia near its intersection with Butler Avenue when he was hit by a car. Although he began crossing the road with a green traffic light, he was not able to make his way across Artesia before the light changed back to red.

The man waited at the boulevard’s median for the next green light and resumed his attempt to cross the road when the signal changed. At the same time, however, the driver of a 2007 Honda Civic was attempting to make a left tu from southbound Butler toward eastbound Artesia.

The driver struck the pedestrian at this time, police reported,

The Long Beach woman who was driving the car remained at the scene of the crash, which is still under investigation.
