
Long Beach’s breakout rock group Rival Sons will be the Friday night headliners for the inaugural three-day Music Tastes Good Festival.
Joshua Fischel, the festival founder and curator made the aouncement on his Facebook page Friday afteoon.
“So, we can FINALLY aounce our headliner for Friday Night at MTG. Long Beach’s own Rival Sons!! So glad to have the hometown boys on the bill,” he wrote in the post.
Fischel did not immediately retu a call for comment.
The Sept. 23-25 festival, being held on the streets of downtown Long Beach, is being presented in partnership with radio station KCRW.
It will feature approximately 50 bands on the roster including The Specials, Metz, De La Soul, the Melvins, Living Colour, Squeeze, Iron & Wine and RX Bandits.
Rival Sons is the biggest name on the bill in terms of current relevance and a big get for the event.
The band, made up of Dave Beste on bass, singer Jay Buchanan, Scott Holiday on guitar and Michael Miley on drums, was handpicked by Ozzy Osboue to open for his legendary group Black Sabbath on the English band’s final world tour.
Known for mixing a soulful blues vibe with a hard-rock edge that have eaed comparisons to rock greats Led Zeppelin, the group will be releasing its fifth album later this year.
Since forming in Long Beach in 2008, the band has performed at such festivals as the Isle of Wight Festival in the UK and Rock Am Ring in Germany and have appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the “Late Show With David Letterman,” and “Later ... With Jools Holland.”
They’ve also opened for AC/DC, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Deep Purple.
