
More than 1,500 homes are under evacuation orders due to the Sand fire buing in the Angeles National Forest near Santa Clarita.
The fire, which began near the 14 Freeway on Friday, has bued more than 34 square miles of forest and 18 structures. One body was found in the bu area on Saturday.
Evacuation orders that were supposed to be lifted by 1 p.m. Sunday remained in place after an “unexpected wind event,” according to a Twitter profile managed by Los Angeles County Fire Department public information officers.
The following areas are under evacuation orders due to the Sand fire:
• Acton from Agua Dulce Canyon Road north to the 14 Freeway, Crown Valley north to the 14 Freeway and all of Soledad Canyon
A new evacuation center has been set up for these areas at Highland High School, 39055 25th Street West, Palmdale, 93551.
• Sand Canyon from Lost Canyon to Bear Divide
This evacuation area was extended from Robinson Ranch Golf Course.
• All residents in Placerita Canyon from the Placerita Nature Center to Sand Canyon
• Little Tujunga from Bear Divide to the Los Angeles River Ranger District Station at 12371 Little Tujunga Canyon Road.
•Via Peincessa, east of Lost Canyon Road and adjoining side streets.
There are two evacuation centers available for these areas at Hart High School, 24825 Newhall Ave, Santa Clarita, CA 91321 and Lakeview Terrace Recreation Center, 11075 Foothill Blvd., Lakeview Terrace, 91340.
