
LONG BEACH >> A 26-year-old woman and her young daughter were killed in a shooting in the downtown area of Long Beach late Saturday night, authorities said today.
A coroner’s representative was sent sometime after 2 a.m. Sunday to East Ninth Street and Locust Avenue, where the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigator Selena Barros of the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office.
The woman’s daughter, who was either 3 or 4 years old, was rushed to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries, Barros said. A spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department said there was some discrepancy in respect to the age of the child and, therefore, she could not provide the child’s precise age.
Police had been dispatched to the scene about 10:40 p.m. Saturday, in response to a shooting at the location, said Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department.
Police as of Sunday moing have no information on the possible shooter or shooters. A motive was not known.
A witness told ABC7 that the mother, daughter and the woman’s husband were walking from their car to their apartment when the shooting occurred, at about 10:20 p.m.
Long Beach police detectives asked anyone with information regarding the shooting to call them at 562-570-7244.
