Pair found dead at base of San Pedro cliff identified as Wilmington residents

A man and woman found dead at the bottom of a San Pedro cliff were identified Monday as residents of Wilmington.

Los Angeles County coroner’s officials identified the pair as Jacqueline Beatriz Murcia, 23, and Silvestre Garcia, 24. They were found dead Sunday morning off South Parker Street and West Paseo del Mar in the White Point area.

The Los Angeles Police Department said the deaths are believed to be accidental but the circumstances remain unclear and an investigation is ongoing. Coronor’s officials have not determined the cause or time of death.

“Right now, we don’t have much more as it only happened yesterday,” said LAPD Sgt. Bradley Hearn, watch commander at the Harbor Division station. “They got to the bottom of the cliff, but how they got there, we’re not sure. ... At this time we don’t have any indication there was any foul play. It looks to be probably accidental.”

The pair would have had to climb over a 4-foot-tall chain-link fence to get to the ocean side on the top of the bluff, Hearn said.

Police arrived on the scene at 10:16 a.m. Sunday after a citizen spotted the bodies. Firefighters and paramedics arrived about the same time and a helicopter took the bodies to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

A Facebook page indicates Garcia worked as a salesman for Ace Roofing. No one at the company was immediately available to comment.
