50 to be honored at Mayor's Long Beach Business Awards

Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia plans to present awards on Friday to 50 people working in the realms of both small and big business.

Calling Friday’s event the inaugural “Mayor’s Long Beach Business Awards,” the ceremony may be considered something of a spinoff of the Go Long Beach Awards, which have provided recognition to Long Beachers who are active in a wide variety of pursuits, including education, religion, charity and the arts.

Among Friday’s honorees:

•Mario and John Molina, Molina Healthcare chief executive and chief financial officer, respectively

•Michelle Molina, managing partner of Millworks, a firm that develops new uses for historic buildings

•Steve Goodling, chief executive of the Long Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau

•Vivian Shimoyama, regional director for Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, an education program at Long Beach City College

•The Walker Family, Farmers & Merchants Bank

•Board members for the East Anaheim Street Business Alliance and Midtown Business Improvement District

•Joe Mendez, president of the Long Beach Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce

•Becky Teter, chief executive of 5,000 Pies, a West Long Beach pizzeria and bakery affiliated with Fountain of Life Covenant Church

•Anthony Otto, president of Long Beach Container Terminal

•Rosita Wang, owner of Aji Peruvian Cuisine
