Long Beach events: 7 things to do this weekend

Lots to do this weekend, and lots to eat. Highlights of the week include Dine Out Long Beach, MOLAA aiversary and a celebration of African American culture.

• Aquarium Of The Pacific’s African American Festival: Join the Aquarium of the Pacific as it hosts its 14th aual African-American Festival, with live entertainment, arts and crafts, and ethnic food. Festival performers include Mardi Gras second line dancers, hip hop and break dancers, tap dancers, jazz musicians, interactive drum circles, West African dancers, and storytellers. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Aquarium, 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach. • 35th Aual Race on the Base: The Southland Credit Union sponsors this event at the Joint Forces Training Base runways, with 1K, 5K and 10K runs. Also displays and music throughout the course. For information, visit www.raceonthebase.com or call 562-430-1073.

• MOLAA at Twenty: 1996–2016 Opening: The Robert Gumbiner Founding Collection and other Permanent Collection highlights acquired over the past two decades, including recent acquisitions of Chicano art. • MOLAA 20th Aiversary Festival: From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. visit the Museum of Latin American Art for its 20th Aiversary Festival. Workshops, crafts, stories, tours and more. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the museum, 628 Alamitos Ave. Admission is free. For information call: 562-437-1689.

• The 2016 Red Carpet Oscar Event: The Art Theatre of Long Beach will host a fundraiser to support independent and local art. The public is invited to ring in the Oscars. 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the theater, 2025 E. 4th St., Long Beach.

• Dine Out Long Beach, Restaurant Week 2.0: More than 45 restaurants will offer two-selection lunches starting at $10, three-selection diers starting at $20, during the second restaurant week Sunday to March 5. Participating restaurants are located in most every coer of the city, including downtown, Bixby Knolls, Belmont Shore, Naples Island, Belmont Heights, and 4th Street Retro Row are all participating. Nearly every restaurant in Shoreline Village, which overlooks Rainbow Harbor, will be part of Dine Out Long Beach, too.
