Southe Califoia Gas Co. has appealed a judge’s order that requires the utility to pay for Porter Ranch residents to be relocated until March 18, an official said.

A spokesman for Supervisor Michael Antonovich said the gas company filed the appeal late Thursday.

The county had asked a judge Thursday to grant a temporary restraining order that would require the gas company to pay for residents to stay in hotels for 30 days after the leak was sealed. State officials aounced last week the well that has been leaking since Oct. 23 was permanently capped. After hearing from attoeys for SoCalGas, the county and Porter Ranch residents, the judge granted the temporary restraining order.

If the judge did not grant the extension, the gas company would have stopped paying for residents to stay at hotels and with friends and family Thursday.
