Long Beach police are investigating a bomb scare Saturday in South Wrigley.

Police were called at 9:29 a.m. about a possible hand grenade in the 2100 block of Chestnut Avenue, said Sgt. James Richardson, a police spokesman, in an email. Officers arrived at the scene, confirmed that the device might be a hand grenade and set up a containment area.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad was called to assist, Richardson said. The grenade was determined to be fake and the investigation is ongoing as of noon.
