Long Beach City College hires 2 deans

Long Beach City College has hired two deans, the school aounced Tuesday.

Michelle Grimes-Hillman is the new dean of academic services, and Mollie Smith was named the dean of the school of career technical education.

Grimes-Hillman oversees LBCC’s curriculum and instructional programs, course offerings and programs, college catalog, enrollment management, and faculty and staff resources.

Smith is in charge of the college’s technical training programs, which provide hands-on training that uses both traditional and state-of-the-art equipment from entry level to advanced courses and help prepare students for a variety of vocational careers.

Smith’s instructional areas include child development, computer and office studies, culinary arts, family and consumer sciences, public services and trades and industrial technologies.

“We’re pleased to welcome Michelle and Mollie, who both come with a wealth of knowledge and experience and are well-suited to help our students achieve success on our campus and in their careers,” LBCC President Eloy Ortiz Oakley said in a statement.

Previous to LBCC

Previous to her position at LBCC, Grimes-Hillman was a psychology professor for more than 15 years at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. As a professor, Grimes-Hillman served as a local senate president, curriculum chair and member on accreditation visiting team for the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.

Smith’s credentials include a range of career technical education instructional positions at San Diego City College and Palomar College.

She is the legislative advocacy chair for Califoia Community College Association of Occupational Education, where she previously served as president.

Smith has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in organizational psychology from San Diego State University.
