Long Beach events: 7 things to do this weekend

• Meet the Mayor: Mayor Robert Garcia will hold three “Meet the Mayor” events on Saturday at locations throughout the city. They are free and open to the public.

The three events are:1 p.m. at Bagelry & Bistro, 5514 E. Britton Drive (next to Lazy Acres); 2:30 p.m. at Roots Gourmet, 6473 E. Pacific Coast Highway (Marketplace); 4 p.m. at Portfolio Coffeehouse, 2300 E. 4th St.

• WomenShelter of Long Beach Open House: The nonprofit that aids victims of domestic violence and offers educational programs about healthy relationships invites the community to an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the new location of their Domestic Violence Resource Center, 4201 Long Beach Blvd., suite 102. There will be tours, a short program, information about WSLB’s offerings and light refreshments. For information, call 562-437-7233.

• Assemblyman Patrick O’Doell Meet & Greet: O’Doell invites the public to join him for coffee and conversation with special guests Councilwoman Suzie Price and School Board Member Jon Meyer. Long Beach residents will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on legislative priorities, lea about constituent services available through the District Office and discuss issues important to the local community. 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Boathouse on the Bay, 190 N. • Mustang Run 5K: Join Councilwoman Price at the Mustang Run 5k on Sunday at Marine Stadium. You can register to run, walk or support the event through www.EventBrite.com, keyword “Rogers Mustang Run.”

• “Just Eat It. A Food Waste Story”: This documentary will be show at the Art Theatre of Long Beach Sunday in partnership with Berlin Bistro and Long Beach Restaurant Week. The 97-minute film looks at the issue of food waste from farm to fridge. Proceeds will benefit Food Finders. Film screening is at 11 a.m. Sunday; admission is $8. At 1:30 p.m., Berlin Bistro chef Tim Balen will present a “root-to-stem” lunch made from fresh vegetables and fruits. Cost is $25 for both lunch and movie. For reservations, call 562-435-0600.

• Candidate Forum: The Los Cerritos Neighborhood Association is sponsoring a Candidate Forum for the 8th District City Council race at 7 p.m. on March 9 at the Petroleum Club, 3636 Linden Ave. The candidates are Laurie Angel, Councilman Al Austin and Wesley Tubow. The LCNA Board will select all questions for the moderator, LCNA President Bob Gill. Members of the public are invited to submit questions for consideration via e-mail by

• Live After 5: Neo Soulstice is this months’ band to spotlight jazz and the impact it has made on the music scene. The band plays 5 to 10 p.m. March 10 at the Breakers Building, 210 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach. That lineup will feature headliners: Tiffany Gouché and Jungle Fire, among others.
