
Police released further details Friday moing about a possibly gang-related shooting in North Long Beach’s Starr King neighborhood that left one man dead and another wounded Thursday afteoon.
A lone gunman walked up to a group of men standing near the intersection of Butler Avenue and Artesia Boulevard and opened fire, police said. The shooting was reported at 3:05 p.m. as an assault with a deadly weapon call, but when officers arrived at the scene, they found two men had been shot.
Both men were taken to a hospital by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics but the victim with the more serious injury, a gunshot wound to the torso, was declared dead shortly after.
The other victim, a 19-year-old Long Beach resident, was struck in the lower body and his injury did not appear life threatening.
Police have not made any arrests as of Friday afteoon.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will determine the dead victim’s identity.
