Long Beach man sentenced to 15 years in fatal DUI crash

A 33-year-old Long Beach man facing charges in his fourth drunken driving case was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison for killing a motorcyclist in a DUI crash.

George Edward Allison Jr. pleaded no contest Tuesday to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to the Los Angeles County District Attoey’s Office. Allison also admitted he was previously convicted of DUI in Orange County in 2005, 2009 and 2013.

He was immediately sentenced and remanded into custody following his plea, the District Attoey’s Office said.

Allison was driving drunk when he struck motorcyclist Jerry Frey on the eastbound 91 Freeway in Cerritos on Jan. 5, 2015, said Deputy District Attoey Andrea Mader, who prosecuted the case, in a statement. The crash launched Frey’s body about 100 feet. He landed on the freeway.

Other motorists came to Frey’s aid, Mader said. He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment and Allison was arrested.

Despite treatment, Frey, 60, succumbed to his injuries three weeks after the crash, she said.
