Suspect sought in Norwalk attempted kidnapping

NORWALK >> Sheriff’s detectives on Tuesday asked for the public’s help in identifying the man who tried to kidnap a woman at knife-point last month in Norwalk.

Investigators also released a composite of the suspect.

Lt. Eric Smitson of the Sheriff’s Norwalk station said the victim, who fought off the assailant, didn’t know the suspect. But she was able get a good look at the man, he added.

The attempted abduction occurred Feb. 25 in the 11200 block of Bawall Street around 9:20 a.m.

Deputies said the 26-year-old victim was putting items into her vehicle when she was attacked. The man wrapped his left arm around her body, held a knife to her neck and attempted to force her inside her vehicle, deputies said.

“He came up from behind her. She didn’t see him prior to being grabbed,” Smitson said. “She fought back. She started to push, fight and fend him off.”

The would-be kidnapper ran. Deputies searched but didn’t find him.

The suspect was described a Latino or white man in his 30s, with short brown hair, brown eyes, light complexion, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. The victim told deputies the suspect has a foul body odor and has a poor quality tattoo of a bird or wing on his right forearm.
