A woman who police say was suicidal died after being struck by a vehicle in North Long Beach late Wednesday, police said. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner, was walking in traffic about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near the crossing of 56th Street and Cherry Avenue, according to Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt. Officers who responded to a report of the woman’s walking in the roadway discovered she had been struck by a 2004 Nissan 350Z traveling north on Cherry before they arrived. When her dog suddenly died after being exposed to toxic blue-green algae at Lake Chabot in the Bay Area, Marcella Schantz wondered whether humans, too, were at risk. “I see kids going down to the shore there. LONDON (AP) — A British lawmaker was shot and killed Thursday in a daylight attack in the town she represented, police said. Labour legislator Jo Cox was attacked just before 1 p.m. in Birstall, northe England, Acting Chief Constable Dee Collins of West Yorkshire Police said. She was pronounced dead by a doctor less than an hour later. A 77-year-old man was injured. A 52-year-old man has been arrested and Collins said police believe it is a “lone incident” and are not looking for anyone else in coection with the attack.
