Authorities arrested six men, seized 1,000 ecstasy pills and confiscated a gun and ammunition during a probation sweep targeted at local gang members and other violent convicts in Long Beach, police said. According to a post on the Long Beach Police Department’s Facebook page, the operation consisted of a team from the LBPD, the L.A. County Probation Department and Homeland Security Investigations contacting probationers in the city to make sure they were abiding by the terms of their release. The team contacted 18 people on Aug. 11 and arrested six of them on suspicion of violating their parole, according to Long Beach police. VENTURA >> Southe Califoia authorities have revised the estimated size of a crude oil pipeline spill down to 29,400 gallons. The spill early Thursday in Ventura County was initially projected to be as much as 210,000 gallons. Ventura Fire Department spokeswoman Kelly Flanders says the oil flowed about a half-mile down an arroyo but will not reach a local beach. The spill comes 13 months after a coastal pipeline about 55 miles to the west in Santa Barbara County leaked more than 120,000 gallons of oil.
