The service is set for 5 to 9 p.m. at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, 320 W. Garvey Ave. Gabriel, 66, whose inteational popularity spaed multiple generations, died of a heart attack Aug. 27 at his home in Santa Monica. FlyAway airport shuttle service between LAX and Santa Monica will be discontinued immediately after Labor Day weekend. The Santa Monica service will stop ruing at midnight on Tuesday. Airport commissioners voted earlier this summer to end service for the Santa Monica route due to low ridership, according to Los Angeles World Airports spokesman Charles Paunzio. FlyAway service will still operate out of Westwood, Long Beach, Hollywood, Union Station, Van Nuys and the Orange Line’s Woodley Station. SAN BERNARDINO >> BNSF Railway Co. shut down train operations through the Cajon Pass in both directions Tuesday as a result of the Blue Cut fire, said spokeswoman Lena Kent. More than 500 firefighters are battling a 5,500-acre brush fire that has forced evacuations in the Cajon Pass area. “We do have a train that is close to the fire that is in the process of safely being moved away from the area,” she said. The Associated Press reported that a freight train was stopped by the fire and its crew had to flee. A new health center offering free and low-cost services to LGBTQ residents in Long Beach and the surrounding area marked its official grand opening Wednesday inside the St. Mary Medical Center campus. BONITA, Calif. — Jonathan De Guzman, a San Diego police officer who survived a stabbing 13 years ago and shot at a gun-wielding man three years ago, will be buried Friday after being fatally shot in the driver’s seat of his patrol car after his partner approached a man on the street. Wendy Greuel was named chair of the Los Angeles city and county agency commission that oversees homeless services, it was aounced Wednesday. The former L.A. city controller and City Council member was named 2016-2017 chair of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority Commission. She was appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to the 10-member group earlier this year. Greuel replaces Mike Neely as chair. LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted today to rescind last week’s vote to put a marijuana tax on the November ballot to fund the fight against homelessness. Supervisor Sheila Kuehl recommended backing away from the tax proposal, saying she was conceed by a lack of support among homeless advocates. Officials in Signal Hill have paved the way for Auto Center dealerships to expand storage and services. The City Council recently approved an ordinance allowing dealerships at the Auto Center to maintain wholesale facilities and vehicle storage yards, and perform auto body repair, painting, and other services. The service is scheduled for 1 p.m. July 20 at Long Beach Police Officers Association Park, 7390 E. Carson St., behind Lowe’s at the Long Beach Towne Center. Passengers on the Blue Line to and from Long Beach experienced delays today due to a power outage, according to L.A. Metro officials. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to reports of smoke coming from a traction power substation at the Blue Line’s Willow station at about 10:45 a.m., according to Metro spokesman Rick Jager. There were no visible signs of fire and no injuries reported, but power was lost, causing trains to stop ruing between the Del Amo station and the Long Beach Transit Mall downtown.
