FlyAway airport shuttle service between LAX and Santa Monica will be discontinued immediately after Labor Day weekend. The Santa Monica service will stop ruing at midnight on Tuesday. Airport commissioners voted earlier this summer to end service for the Santa Monica route due to low ridership, according to Los Angeles World Airports spokesman Charles Paunzio. FlyAway service will still operate out of Westwood, Long Beach, Hollywood, Union Station, Van Nuys and the Orange Line’s Woodley Station. SAN BERNARDINO >> BNSF Railway Co. shut down train operations through the Cajon Pass in both directions Tuesday as a result of the Blue Cut fire, said spokeswoman Lena Kent. More than 500 firefighters are battling a 5,500-acre brush fire that has forced evacuations in the Cajon Pass area. “We do have a train that is close to the fire that is in the process of safely being moved away from the area,” she said. The former L.A. city controller and City Council member was named 2016-2017 chair of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority Commission. LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted today to rescind last week’s vote to put a marijuana tax on the November ballot to fund the fight against homelessness. Supervisor Sheila Kuehl recommended backing away from the tax proposal, saying she was conceed by a lack of support among homeless advocates. The Board of Supervisors Tuesday renewed a $10,000 reward for information that leads to arrests in a 2014 Long Beach parking lot shooting that left one man dead and three other people wounded. Supervisor Don Knabe recommended extending the reward, which had been set to expire July 15 and will now be available for at least another 90 days. Questions about the security and integrity of Califoia voter information have surfaced after a Southe Califoia district attoey described online tampering incidents in which residents’ party registration was changed without their knowledge. On Wednesday, Riverside County District Attoey Mike Hestrin said a preliminary investigation revealed that party affiliations were changed without voters’ knowledge or consent. The City Council recently approved an ordinance allowing dealerships at the Auto Center to maintain wholesale facilities and vehicle storage yards, and perform auto body repair, painting, and other services. Passengers on the Blue Line to and from Long Beach experienced delays today due to a power outage, according to L.A. Metro officials. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to reports of smoke coming from a traction power substation at the Blue Line’s Willow station at about 10:45 a.m., according to Metro spokesman Rick Jager.
