The Orange County Fire Authority responded to a pair of separate but related crashes each involving two vehicles at 8:50 p.m. in the southbound lane of the 55 Freeway at McFadden Avenue, Capt. Larry Kurtz said. Emergency persoel had to cut one person from a vehicle using the Jaws of Life, Kurtz said. Two people were injured. One victim went to Hoag Hospital and the other was transported to Orange County Global Medical Center, Kurtz said. A 28-year-old Lakewood man riding a motorcycle was killed after broadsiding a car trying to get out of the way of a fire engine that was responding to an unrelated collision, police said. The man killed in the Saturday night collision was identified Monday as Anthony Champion, according to Ed Winter, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. His cause of death is pending.
